Beermen celebrate Marcio Lassiter’s career night with 49-point beating of Gin Kings
San Miguel ensured an unforgettable night devoid of spoilers as Marcio Lassiter etched his name in history by becoming the all-time three-point king.
The Beermen harnessed the momentum from Lassiter’s remarkable achievement, overwhelming Barangay Ginebra with a stunning 131-82 victory. This dominant performance secured their position at the top of Group B in an electrifying display during the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, September 15.
Lassiter ignited the crowd by sinking four of his six three-pointers in the first quarter, not only surpassing the record held by Jimmy Alapag but also leading an explosive start that established the foundation for San Miguel’s largest margin of victory in franchise history.
He finished the game with 18 points, elevating his career total to an impressive 1,254 three-pointers. June Mar Fajardo joined in the jubilation, contributing 24 points and 17 rebounds, while CJ Perez added 22 points, providing vital support.
The Beermen surged to a staggering 37-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, handing the Kings their most significant defeat in franchise lore.
By halftime, San Miguel had extended their lead to 66-31, continuing to widen the gap as Ginebra struggled to keep pace, appearing fatigued from their back-to-back matchups after a previous game against Rain or Shine.
With this decisive victory, San Miguel improved to a 6-2 record, claiming the top spot in Group B, followed closely by Rain or Shine at 5-2, with Ginebra trailing at 5-3.
Import Jordan Adams played a supporting role this time, contributing 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Terrence Romeo and Don Trollano joined him in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
For Ginebra, RJ Abarriento led the way with 19 points, though the majority came in garbage time as the game slipped out of reach. Meanwhile, Justin Brownlee, who had previously erupted for 51 points in their first encounter, was limited to just 16, with Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson adding 15 and 13 points, respectively.
