Beermen improve to 2-0 with 19-point rout of Bossing

San Miguel pounded on a hapless Blackwater side and won with plenty to spare, 105-86, Wednesday in the PBA Season 47 Governors’ Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Beermen, who posted a lopsided 21-point victory over Phoenix in their conference opener last Sunday, improved to 2-0 while the Bossing fell to their 2nd loss in three starts.

The Jorge Gallent-mentored squad set the tone for the match by outscoring their opponents by 19, 30-11, in the second frame. The lead reached as high as 30 just before the close of the first half.

Jericho Cruz, who was adjudged as Best Player, paced the Beermen with 22 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting from the field with 3-of-4 coming from beyond the arc. The 9th overall pick of the 2014 draft also finished with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action.

“We just have to learn, we just have to play smarter. In the first half we were running, we were running and then it suddenly stopped,” said Gallent during the post-game presser.

“So we just got to learn, we’re gonna watch films and see what’s really happening there. That’s what I always say, if we give the other team the chance to come back, they will take advantage of it,” he added.

SMB import Cameron Clark added 20 points, 9 boards, 2 assists and a block while June Mar Fajardo had a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds to go with 4 assists, 2 steals and a block. CJ Perez and Marcio Lassiter chipped in 14 and 13 markers, respectively. Simon Enciso contributed 9 points, 7 assists and 3 steals.
