Beermen sign guards Wendell Comboy, Gelo Alolino to one-year deals

San Miguel has fortified its backcourt rotation with the addition of guards Gelo Alolino and rookie Wendell Comboy.
The 26-year old Alolino, who was drafted 14th overall by Phoenix in the 2016 draft, spent the past season with the Blackwater Elite and posted averages of 2.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in only 8.9 minutes of playing time in 22 outings.
Comboy, on the other hand, was selected by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters as the 23rd overall pick in the recent draft but was left unsigned. The 6-foot guard spent his collegiate years playing for the FEU Tamaraws.
The two, who were signed to separate one-year contracts, will join an already formidable cast of playmakers led by Alex Cabagnot, Chris Ross, Terrence Romeo and Paul Zamar.
The Beermen are deep in preparations for the upcoming Philippine Cup which kicks off on March 1. The Leo Austria-mentored squad will be gunning for its 6th straight crown in the league’s most prestigious conference.
The team opened its title-retention drive with the acquisition of Russel Escoto earlier this year from the NorthPort Batang in exchange for volatile big man Kelly Nabong.
