Beermen snap out of losing streak with 37-point romp over Tropang Giga

San Miguel finally ended a five-game losing streak by beating another skidding team, TNT, 111-74, in the PBA on Tour on Friday, July 7, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Beermen finally got back on the winning track a. Marvin Lee, Allyn Bulanadi, and Jericho Cruz worked together to pick up the slack for the flagship team of the SMC group which had a hard time in practice games without its star players.

Cruz and Lee got things going for SMB. The duo was the main reasons why they had a strong first half that gave them a lead which ballooned to 19 points in the second quarter.

TNT never got back on track after that, and SMB won the game easily. With three wins and six losses, SMB is in an odd 11th place in the ratings so far.

Cruz scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half, but a flagrant foul penalty two offense sent him to the locker room as early as the third quarter. Cruz and TNT’s Paul Varilla got into a fight after they got caught up in a play for a loose ball.

Cruz then seemed to hit Varilla with his knee, which got him thrown out with 3:58 left in the period and the Beermen still leading easily, 67–50.

The Beermen didn’t let the other team get the upper hand when Bulanadi and Lee took turns scoring in the last part of the game. In fact, their lead grew to 41 points, 102-61, which was their biggest of the game.

Lee led SMB with 22 points that came from five three-pointers, while Bulanadi added 20. Rodney Brondial also kept things going by scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 boards.

Jaydee Tungcab’s 30 points were a big deal for TNT, and Carl Bryan Cruz’s 22 points helped him out. Even though they tried hard, the Tropang Giga were still unable to win any of the six pre-season games they played.
