Beermen take on skidding Bossing, eye 10th straight win

After securing their ninth consecutive victory, San Miguel shows no intentions of slowing down in the highly competitive PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup.

Blackwater Bossing faces the daunting task of trying to halt the impressive Beermen’s winning streak this Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena.

A triumph for Blackwater would not only break their six-game losing streak but also elevate their standing to 4-6, providing them with the opportunity to potentially secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

If Blackwater manages to secure victories against San Miguel on Wednesday and Phoenix Super LPG on Saturday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig, they could find themselves in a tie with NorthPort and other teams with a 5-6 record at the end of the eliminations.

San Miguel poses a formidable challenge, as they are determined to maintain their dominance throughout the elimination phase, culminating in a final match against Meralco at the Batangas City Coliseum on Saturday.

“Our next goal is the 10th win,” said coach Jorge Gallent. “We are going step-by-step. Monday, Tuesday, we will prepare for Blackwater and for now, we will just think of the 10th game. We will think of Blackwater.”

“On Wednesday, we will play Blackwater. We will prepare against Blackwater and then Saturday, against Meralco. As of now, Meralco isn’t even in our heads because we are playing Blackwater on Wednesday,” he added.

The league has not witnessed an elimination round sweep since Talk N Text achieved the feat by winning all nine games in the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup.

Coach Gallent acknowledges the significance of potentially sweeping the eliminations but remains focused on the team’s ultimate goal without getting distracted by trivial achievements.

“If it comes, it comes, but that’s not really in our minds. We just do it step-by-step, prepare for every team when it comes,” said Gallent.

Furthermore, San Miguel’s unwavering focus and sharpness will undoubtedly benefit them as they approach the playoffs, ensuring they are prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
