Beermen too much for Prosper-less Dyip

San Miguel pounced on a Lester Prosper-less Terrafirma side and won with plenty to spare, 131-103, Wednesday night in the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Commissioner’s Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Devon Scott led the way for the Beermen with a triple-double output of 21 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists in 35 minutes of action. He shot 8-of-12 from the field and sank 5-of-6 from the 15-foot line in addition to 3 steals and a block as the defending champs registered their 5th win in 10 starts while dealing the already-eliminated Dyip their 10th defeat in 11 outings.

June Mar Fajardo returned from a 7-game absence due to a throat injury and contributed 20 points, 9 boards, 3 assists, a steal and a block in 23 minutes of play.

“Our game plan really was to play hard,” said lead assistant Jorge Gallent who called the shots once more as head coach Leo Austria was still out due to health protocols.

“We didn’t think about them being import-less. From tip-off, we talked to one another and said that we have to play 48 minutes of basketball,” he added.

Jericho Cruz top-scored for the league’s winningest franchise with 25 points highlighted by a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Vic Manuel added 19 points while CJ Perez and Paul Zamar chipped in 12 and 9 markers, respectively.

Marcio Lassiter had an off-night as the usually reliable shooter missed all of his 8 attempts from 3-point country, 10 including two from 2-point range. He finished with 1 point, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

The Beemen’s next assignment is against the skidding TNT Tropang Giga set on Saturday, November 26, 6:45pm at the same venue.
