Fajardo dominates anew as San Miguel repeats over Rain or Shine

June Mar Fajardo delivered yet another outstanding performance that propelled San Miguel Beer to a convincing 106-89 victory over Rain or Shine in their PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup semifinals clash at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

Fajardo erupted for 18 points in the third quarter alone, igniting a powerful offensive surge that allowed the Beermen to pull away from what had been a close game and secure a commanding 2-0 series lead.

Adding to the excitement was Marcio Lassiter’s impressive display, as he contributed 13 points, including three crucial three-pointers that elevated him to third place on the all-time career three-point field goals list with 1,219.

SMB coach Jorge Gallent was undoubtedly pleased with his team’s improved performance, especially after their narrow 101-98 victory in the series opener last Friday.

Fajardo’s stellar play in the third quarter was a game-changer, as he went from scoring just four points in the first half to dominating the court and helping the Beermen establish an 88-69 lead heading into the final period.

The rest of the San Miguel squad also stepped up, with CJ Perez recording a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Terrence Romeo and Don Trollano provided a combined 26 points off the bench.

Despite Rain or Shine’s efforts to mount a comeback, led by Gian Mamuyac and Keith Datu, they fell short as Romeo and Lassiter’s clutch shots extinguished any hopes of a rally.

Anton Asistio displayed resilience for the Elasto Painters, scoring 20 points despite a facial injury sustained during the game. Adrian Nocum bounced back from a scoreless Game 1 with an impressive 17 points and nine rebounds, while Mamuyac and Datu contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.

However, Rain or Shine’s 15 turnovers proved costly, leading to 18 points for San Miguel Beer and ultimately sealing their fate in the game.

As the series shifts to the Dasmarinas Arena in Cavite on Wednesday, Rain or Shine faces an uphill battle down 0-2 and will need to regroup to avoid falling into a 0-3 deficit.
