Fajardo looking to play in SMB’s next game
June Mar Fajardo was in uniform during San Miguel’s match against Magnolia last Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano, however, wasn’t fielded in by SMB head coach Leo Austria despite earlier reports that he was already fit to see action.
Without their main man, the Beermen absorbed another defeat and fell to 10th spot in the team standings with a 3-5 record.
Fajardo bared that he might play in their next game once given clearance by his doctor.
“Siguro next game or the next game pa. Hihingi lang kami ng clearance sa doctor na payagan na akong maglaro,” said the league’s only 6-time MVP who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Thursday.
“Sana nga magtuluy-tuloy na,” he added.
The top overall pick of the 2012 draft has missed the Beermen’s last 6 games after undergoing surgery on his throat following an inadvertent elbow from Rain or Shine import Steve Taylor. He sat out one month but has since rejoined the team’s five-on-five and full-contact scrimmages.
He claimed that the doctors added metal to his throat during surgery which initially caused discomfort.
“Dami ko ng metal sa katawan. Nakakapanibago nung una pero ngayon nasanay na. Bawal pa sa akin yung mga spicy pero nakakain ko na lahat,” said Fajardo who’s itching to return and revive the team’s sagging hopes of defending the title.
“Pagbalik ko gusto ko makatulong sa team.”
