What was supposed to be a pleasant 30th birthday celebration for San Miguel’s premier player June Mar Fajardo turned out into a violent fist fight between import Dez Wells and veterans Arwind Santos and Ronald Tubid during team practice, Sunday at the Upper Deck gym in Pasig City.
Witnesses bared that tempers started to flare after Santos set a bone-crunching pick on Wells during scrimmage which floored the 27-year old American.
Cooler heads rushed to break up the two but Tubid, a close friend of Santos, came in and punched the recovering SMB reinforcement.
At this point, witnesses claimed that Nabong came to the defense of Wells and punched Tubid. Order, however, was finally restored afterwards.
Fans who trooped to the venue to watch the practice and greet Fajardo were reportedly asked to leave the premises while team officials were sorting out the unfortunate incident.
Aside from Fajardo, Nabong was also celebrating his birthday that day, his 31st.
Team officials refused to comment on the incident while insiders claim that management has scheduled an emergency meeting later in the day.
