June Mar Fajardo in danger of missing Philippine Cup due to shin injury
San Miguel main man June Mar Fajardo suffered a shin injury during the team’s Monday practice and could possibly miss the upcoming 2020 Philippine Cup, according to sources.
Team officials refused to comment on the unfortunate development but is expected to release an official statement anytime soon.
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano sustained the same injury during the 2018 Governors’ Cup which kept him out of action for two months.
The 30-year old Fajardo’s impending absence will create a massive dent on the Beermen’s quest for an unprecedented six straight Philippine Cup title which kicks off when the league unfolds its 45th season on March 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 5-time PBA MVP, who was left out of the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas in order for him to have ample time to rest, topped the statistical race of the recently concluded season with an average of 39.6 SPs built on the strength of 18.8 points, league-leading 13.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per outing.
With Fajardo out of the line-up indefinitely, the Beermen are left with Moala Tautuaa and Billy Mamaril to man the post for the looming All-Filipino battles.
