June Mar Fajardo out 4 to 6 weeks due to fractured left hand

June Mar Fajardo will be unavailable for San Miguel for the next four to six weeks.

The 7-time PBA MVP suffered a metacarpal fracture on his left hand, as per SMB team manager Gee Abanilla.

“Metacarpal fracture of 4th digit,” wrote Abanilla in a text message to Tiebreaker Times.

Fajardo sustained the injury during the third quarter of their 115-110 victory over Rain or Shine on Wednesday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Despite the pain, the 34-year-old Cebuano managed to continue playing after contesting a layup by rookie Adrian Nocum.

Upon returning to the game in the fourth quarter, Fajardo’s left hand was taped, but he left the venue after the match to have it examined.

While speaking to the press on his way out, Fajardo downplayed the injury, but it appears to be more serious than initially believed.

This is a significant blow for the Beermen, which is already dealing with injuries to Terrence Romeo, Jeron Teng, Vic Manuel, and Kyt Jimenez.

Currently, the league’s most successful franchise is ranked third in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup standings, alongside Brgy. Ginebra and Meralco, with all teams holding identical 3-1 records. Magnolia is on top with an immaculate 4-0 record followed by Phoenix at 4-1.

Fajardo has been performing exceptionally well, averaging 19.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks.
