June Mar Fajardo powers Beermen past Dyip and into semis

San Miguel narrowly avoided a major upset in the PBA 48th Season Philippine Cup with a powerful offensive surge in the third quarter, leading to a decisive 110-91 victory over Terrafirma in their crucial quarterfinal showdown.

The Beermen displayed their dominance by outscoring the Dyip 34-22 in the pivotal third period at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, securing their spot in the Final Four and reigniting their quest for the championship title.

June Mar Fajardo shone brightly for the top-seeded Beermen, showcasing an impressive performance with 25 points and 22 rebounds. With this win, San Miguel moves on to face either TNT or Rain or Shine in the semifinals set to commence on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Despite facing adversity after a tough loss to Terrafirma in their previous game, the Beermen rallied together and delivered a remarkable comeback in the third quarter to seal their victory.

“We came out at the start of the game and we pressured a lot and we brought them out of their comfort zone. The energy and discipline on defense today really worked,” said SMB coach Jorge Gallent.

Launching into the third quarter with an explosive 18-4 run, San Miguel leaned on Fajardo’s dominant presence in the paint, contributing 10 crucial points. Fajardo continued to excel in the fourth quarter, adding 11 more points as the Beermen surged ahead by a commanding 20-point lead.

Terrence Romeo also made a significant impact for San Miguel, finishing with 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. Don Trollano and CJ Perez each added 18 points to bolster the Beermen’s offensive efforts.

On the other side, Javi Gomez de Liano led Terrafirma with 23 points and six rebounds, while Stephen Holt and Juami Tiongson contributed 18 points each for the Dyip.
