June Mar Fajardo recognized as PBA Player of the Week
June Mar Fajardo continues to be the dominant force for the San Miguel Beermen.
The seven-time MVP put up double-doubles to lead San Miguel past Brgy. Ginebra, 3-0, in the semifinals of the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup.
In the series-clinching 94-91 victory in front of over 15,000 fans at Mall of Asia Arena, Fajardo contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Throughout the best-of-five series, the 6-foot-10 center consistently delivered double-doubles, averaging 15.3 points and 11 rebounds along with 3.7 blocks per game. This included a high of five blocks in Game 2, which the Beermen won 106-96.
Fajardo shot an impressive 61.5% from the field while matching up against leading Best Player of the Conference candidate Christian Standhardinger.
After returning from a fractured left hand, Fajardo has reestablished himself as a focal point for San Miguel’s success. This performance earned him his first PBA Press Corps-Pilipinas Live Player of the Week award this season.
Fajardo’s teammate CJ Perez came in a close second for the weekly honor from January 24-27. Perez averaged 18 points on 50% three-point shooting to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.7 steals.
He supported Fajardo as San Miguel dethroned Brgy. Ginebra for their ninth straight victory, including eight since Fajardo’s return from injury. This has put the Beermen in an ideal position to contend for their 29th PBA championship.
