June Mar Fajardo set to miss a few games due to throat injury
June Mar Fajardo may miss a few games in the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Commissioner’s Cup.
The San Miguel main man received an elbow to the throat from Rain or Shine import Steve Thomas Jr. during the game last Sunday but managed to finish the match and contribute 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in 34 minutes as the Beermen bounced back after a shock opening game loss to Blackwater.
The league’s only 6-time MVP was immediately brought to the hospital after his voice became hoarse.
The injury appears to be more serious than what the team initially thought and insiders now claim that Fajardo may sit out a few games but everything still depends on the doctor’s recommendation.
“The team is waiting for the recommendation of the doctor,” said the insider during an interview with ESPN.ph.
“”His Adam’s apple was hit solidly. His voice sounds like it’s modulated. Initially the doctor said he needs to rest and may miss a few games.”
The insider also bared that Fajardo was having trouble breathing.
“The team is hoping he won’t be out long. Hopefully there’s no swelling and nothing got mis-aligned.”
The 32-year old Cebuano posted averages of 22.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in the Beermen’s first 2 outings.
The defending champs will try to get a winning streak going when they take on guest team Bay Area Dragons on Sunday, October 16, 4:30pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
