Long break a welcome development for Wells, SMB

San Miguel absorbed its 3rd defeat in 4 games after the Beermen bowed to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 99-96, Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The Grand Slam-chasing squad have now lost 4 of its last 6 after opening the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup with 4 successive wins and are now in danger of finishing the elimination round outside the top 4.

Another cause for concern is the status of import Dez Wells who sustained an ankle injury during the game against Meralco which forced team management to enlist the services John Holland as a temporary replacement.

The Beermen are currently in the middle of a 10-day break with its game against TNT set on Wednesday, November 20 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

“Mahirap maghintay ng ganito katagal, pero siyempre maganda rin considering the status of some of our players,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

“Kasi gusto mo nang maglaro ulit agad but some of our players also need the break para makapahinga naman kahit konti. Kasi bukod sa amin sa San Miguel may mga iba diyan nagpa-practice pa sa Gilas,” he added.

With regards to Wells, Austria bared that the 27-year old American has already started practicing but nothing is still certain at this point.

“After a few practices malalaman na kung talagang okay na siya,” said Austria.

“After na-X-ray at saka MRI na-clear na siya. So kailangan na lang siguro niya to get back in game-shape. We’ll see,” added the 8-time PBA champion mentor.
