Mo Tautuaa thriving in new role as San Miguel’s main man in the middle

Moala Tautuaa is proving to one and all that he can take up the cudgels for PBA superstar and San Miguel main man June Mar Fajardo.

The 6-foot-8 Fil-Tongan picked up his 3rd Best Player of the Game citation after the Beermen steamrolled past Meralco for the five-time reigning champs’ third win in a row after dropping back-to-back games against Rain or Shine and TNT to open the PBA restart.

Tautuaa led the team in scoring against the Bolts with 23 points, 10 coming in the pivotal final frame where San Miguel pulled off a furious rally in the opening minutes to grab the upper hand after trailing by 9 at the end of the 3rd.

The top overall pick of the 2015 rookie draft stressed that he is slowly but surely getting into the groove of making a living inside the shaded lane – something that admittedly isn’t his strong suit.

“All of our coaching staff are making sure I stay within what I got to do. You can see that I’m way more effective inside than outside. I mean, why would I go somewhere where I’m ineffective?” said Tautuaa.

“So coach knows something more than I do. I like shooting and its cool, but I need to be where he wants me to be in order to make sure our offense works. Taking his role and making sure that I do what he tells me to do is big time,” he added.

The Beermen try to make it four in a row when they take on the Blackwater Elite on Tuesday, November 3 at the AUF Sports Arena & Cultural Center.
