San Miguel replaces Dez Wells with John Holland
San Miguel is set parade John Holland as the team’s reinforcement in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup after Dez Wells was deemed as unfit for the Beermen’s next assignement which is against Rain or Shine on Saturday, November 9 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
This development came a day after Wells sat down the game against Blackwater due to an ankle injury which he sustained last October 27 against Meralco. The Beermen barely survived the Elite, needing to go through an extra period to pull off the much-needed 99-96 victory which snapped the team’s two-game slide.
Wells, who was placed on the injured list, posted averages of 37.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals in eight games and led the Grand Slam-chasing team to 5 wins.
“Very crucial ang game namin on Saturday. The good thing is, this win (against Blackwater) can give us a lot of option eh, dahil kung natalo kami mahirap eh,” said Austria.
The 8-time PBA champion mentor bared that Wells still practiced with the team until the pain became unbearable.
“He’s practicing well nung Monday, china-challenge niya every player na matapat sa kanya expecially on penetration but we’re surprised yesterday he skipped practice because something’s wrong with his foot.”
The 31-year old Holland went undrafted during the 2011 NBA rookie draft but went on to have brief stints with the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
