San Miguel suspends Arwind Santos, Ronald Tubid, Kelly Nabong indefinitely for practice scuffle

San Miguel has slapped its three local players – namely Arwind Santos, Ronald Tubid and Kelly Nabong with indefinite suspension following the trio’s role in a scuffle which broke out during team practice last Sunday, November 17 at the Upper Deck gym.

“The management of the San Miguel Beermen has decided to indefinitely suspend Arwind Santos, Kelly Nabong, and Ronald Tubid, following a tussle that broke out at team practice last November 17,” read the team’s statement.

“While the conflict has been resolved, and the incident occurred away from the public eye, the San Miguel organization does not tolerate unsportsmanlike behavior. Basketball is a physical game where emotions can run high, but we believe that PBA players have to be held to a higher standard of professionalism and sportsmanship at all times.”

According to a team official, Dez Wells was on the receiving end of a hard pick from Arwind Santos which the high-scoring reinforcement didn’t like. Tempers flared between the two after the collision which escalated after Ronald Tubid and Kelly Nabong took sides and then joined the fray.

“It is for this reason that we’ve come to this decision, even if it impacts our bid for a second franchise grand slam. Our commitment now, moving forward, is that we will work doubly hard and play our very best, for our fans and for the organization,” the statement closed.

The Beermen is set to take on the TNT KaTropa today, November 20 for its last game in the elimination round with the team needing a victory in order to avail of the twice-to-beat incentive in the next round.
