Magnolia def San Miguel, 88-80 [PBA S48 Comm’s Cup Finals Game 3 | Feb. 7, 2024]
San Miguel is poised to make history in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup, aiming to achieve a feat that has never been accomplished in the league before.
No team has ever swept the entire playoffs on the way to a PBA crown.
After an impressive run from the eliminations, the Beermen are just two wins away from making history and claiming the Commissioner’s Cup title.
In Game 3 against the struggling Magnolia Hotshots at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, Coach Jorge Gallent and his team are determined to secure a three-to-nil lead in the race-to-four showdown.
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m., and a victory for the Beermen would put them on the verge of a record-setting playoffs sweep and their 29th league crown. Despite these milestones, Coach Gallent remains focused on one thing – winning the championship.
“The sweep is not even on our minds. Our team is thinking how to get four games,” said Gallent, who is now just two wins away from his first PBA crown in only his second conference as the SMB head coach.
The Beermen are locked in, dominating the first two games with emphatic wins. They’re keeping the playoff fire alive after defeating Rain or Shine, 127-122, in the quarters and blanking defending champion Brgy. Ginebra, 3-0, in the semis.
Magnolia’s strong playoff run has fizzled out, and if they can’t step up in Game 3, Coach Chito Victolero and his team will be done for.
