SMB holds practice behind closed doors, team officials mum on fighting incident

The San Miguel Beermen held its practice behind closed doors a day after a fight involving Arwind Santos and Dez Wells reportedly broke out during scrimmage.

Security guards detailed at the Acropolis Gym refused entry to visitors.

SMB coaches and officials have also been tight-lipped on the incident which happened Sunday at the The Upper Deck Sports Center in Pasig City.

According to witnesses, Wells was floored by Santos after the 13-year PBA veteran gave the high-scoring import a hard pick. Tensions flared between the two and things further escalated after Ronald Tubid burst into the scene and punched Wells. Kelly Nabong came to the defense of Wells and retaliated by punching Tubid.

Fans who were at the practice facility were then asked to vacate the premises while team officials tried to sort out the unfortunate incident which transpired during the 30th birthday of SMB main man June Mar Fajardo.

The Beermen are preparing for its final game in the elimination round which is against bitter rival TNT. The crucial match is set on Wednesday, November 20 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

A win by the Grand Slam-chasing squad could prop it up to 3rd seed and along with it a twice-to-beat incentive in the next round. A loss, on the other hand, could drop the team to 5th seed.
