Danny Ildefonso had a very quick answer when asked if his famed San Miguel team can match up against the current group of Beermen that has dominated the PBA for the past half decade.
“Ako, sasagutin ko ‘yun. Hindi sila mananalo sa amin,” Ildefonso declared during an episode of 2OT with Carlo Pamintuan and Magoo Marjon, where the members of San Miguel’s team from the early 2000s reunited in a much-anticipated episode.
Ildefonso was joined in the chat by Danny Seigle, Olsen Racela, coach Jong Uichico, Dorian Pena, and Nic Belasco among others, as they spent over an hour reminiscing about their glory days.
Powered by the two Dannys, San Miguel won five PBA titles in a two-year span from 1999 to 2001. Ildefonso also won the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2000 and 2001.
Predictably, the conversation turned to a “dream match” between their San Miguel team and the current squad. The Beermen have been the dominant force in the PBA in recent years, winning an unprecedented five straight All-Filipino titles behind a core group anchored by reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo.
