WATCH: CJ Perez takes charge for SMB!

San Miguel recovered from a lackluster first quarter and flexed its might and depth in the second half to outlast NLEX, 100-92, Friday in the elimination round of the PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

CJ Perez scored 19 while Marcio Lassiter added 18 including his 1000th career triple as the Beermen picked up their 2nd win in 2 starts while dealing the Road Warriors their first defeat of the conference for an even 1-1 record.

“Before this conference, we told the boys that we should have a good start in order for us to have a good rhythm,” said SMB coach Leo Austria during the post-match press conference. “In previous conferences, you never witnessed the team in the first few games na nanalo kami. In fact, last conference, 0-2 agad kami.”

“But this time, with this win, this will add some confidence to the team,” he added.

Vic Manuel chipped in 14 markers while Chris Ross and Jericho Cruz contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively.

June Mar Fajardo, who earlier pledged to donate ₱200 to a charity of his choice for every point he makes, was held to 9 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field but made up for it by grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds in 35 minutes of play.

The Beermen take a one-week break before clashing with sister team Magnolia on June 17 at the same venue.
