Ivan Aska buckled down to work early and provided the early momentum carrying San Miguel Beer to a coast-to-coast 105-96 win over Converge in a PBA Commissioner’s Cup road game in Tiaong, Quezon Saturday.
Aska scored 13 of his 28 points in the opening quarter and CJ Perez and June Mar Fajardo joined the carnage later on as the Beermen scored a second straight win after a sorry upset loss in their season debut against NLEX.
Aska, Perez and Fajardo poured in at least 22 points each as the Beermen put up a virtual scoring clinic in their return at the Tiaong Convention Center.
In the preseason OnTour series, the Beermen went down to a reversal by the Meralco Bolts minus Fajardo and the other SMB big guns.
But there’s no stopping the Beermen this time after exploding from the get-got to post twin-digit leads right in the opening quarter.
With a 45.5-percent shooting clip, the Beermen zoomed to a lead as big as 18 although they needed to fend off an uprising to hand the FiberXers their fourth loss in as many loss in the tourney.
Aska grabbed 11 rebounds on top of his game-high output, Perez had his own double-double with 24 points and 11 boards while Fajardo contributed 22 and nine.
