San Miguel vs Brgy. Ginebra SF Game 4 | PBA Season 49 Governors' Cup
San Miguel ignited a fierce offensive onslaught in the second half, overpowering Barangay Ginebra, 131-121, and leveling their PBA Governors Cup semifinals series at 2-2.
June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, and a determined EJ Anosike delivered a powerful performance during a decisive third quarter that saw the Beermen outpace the Kings with a remarkable 37-29 run, nearly sealing the win before a raucous crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. This explosive surge allowed San Miguel to take command with a 99-85 lead heading into the final frame.
Fajardo was a dominant force, finishing with 29 points and snagging 16 rebounds, helping the Beermen withstand a staggering 49-point effort from Ginebra import Justin Brownlee, thereby leveling the best-of-seven series.
Game 5 is scheduled for Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Brownlee shouldered the majority of the scoring burden for Ginebra, racking up 49 points, including an impressive 17 during the third quarter, as he valiantly attempted to lift the Kings on his broad shoulders.
The Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player also contributed nine rebounds and five assists while going a flawless 2-of-2 from the four-point line.
Stephen Holt added 17 points, and Scottie Thompson chipped in 15 for the Kings, who were faced with a daunting deficit of 122-102 late in what has been the most lopsided game of the series thus far.
With the series now effectively a best-of-three, San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent hopes the pattern of the Beermen claiming victories in even-numbered games doesn’t persist in the upcoming matchups.
Anosike, despite battling a painful ankle, delivered a commendable 27 points, with 14 of those coming during the pivotal third quarter, and Perez added 20 points on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc for San Miguel.
