THE PBA board of governors opted Saturday night to wait a little more – until August to be exact – before making a definite decision on whether to push through with a shortened Season 45 or scrap it altogether.
“Maghihintay kami until August to decide whether it’s still a go or a season cancellation,” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial at the end of a two-hour teleconference with the league board headed by chairman Ricky Vargas of TNT KaTropa.
The online meeting was longer than their two previous talks as the PBA executives also discussed the status of each player especially those with expiring contracts during the indefinite suspension of the league because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board passed unanimously a proposal to suspend any player trade and transactions to sign up free agent players.
“The only transaction allowed is re-signing players whose contracts have lapsed,” said Marcial.
