WATCH: San Miguel vs Alaska LAST 2 MINUTES! [2021 Philippine Cup | September 22, 2021]
San Miguel secured the fourth seeding and ended Alaska Milk’s quarterfinal hopes with a 101-100 thriller courtesy of a last-gasp three-pointer by Marcio Lassiter in the DHVSU Gym Wednesday night.
The Beermen patiently worked the ball around before finding Lassiter open in the left flank, and the Fil-Am gunner showed steely nerves in draining the big trey that gave SMB a 7-4 win-loss closing mark in the PBA Philippine Cup elims.
The former all-Filipino five-peat champ figures in a best-of-three quarterfinals series as the fourth seed behind No. 1 TNT Tropang Giga, No. 2 Meralco and No. 3 Magnolia.
“Alam namin all-out sila for their quarterfinals drive. As for us, we wanted that W because gusto namin pumasok sa quarters na may momentum,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
The Beermen squandered an early 15-point lead then rallied from seven down to eliminate the Aces from the playoff race.
Alaska (3-7) will be out of it all regardless of the outcome of its game against NorthPort Thursday.
Lassiter redeemed himself from an error in an earlier play as he made the game-winning trey, allowing the Beermen to enter the quarterfinals on a high note.
