WATCH: San Miguel vs Blackwater Game Highlights [2021 Governors’ Cup | Dec. 18, 2021]
San Miguel threw its weight around long-skidding Blackwater, 107-88, to pick up back-to-back wins and reach the .500 mark for the first time in the Season 46 PBA Governors’ Cup Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
CJ Perez (21 points) Marcio Lassiter (18), Vic Manuel (16), Terrence Romeo (13) and Simon Enciso (13) took the scoring cudgels as the Beermen continued their rise from a 0-2 start in the import-flavored conference at the Bossing’s expense.
Coach Leo Austria’s charges made it two-in-a-row counting their 91-88 escape act over all-Filipino NorthPort last Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The lopsided result sent the Bossing reeling to 0-4, their league-record losing streak stretched to 23 games overall dating back to the 2020 Philippine Cup bubble.
The locals’ heavy offensive production eased the load on SMB import Brandon Brown, who finished with 12 but produced 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
“Naging motivation sa team yung first two losses namin. We couldn’ afford to lose another two consecutive games or else we’ll be at the bottom,” said SMB coach Leo Austria.
“It’s a good thing the players responded. They realized the importance of our next two games. At the same time, we didn’t want to be the victim of our opponent Blackwater as they try to end their (losing) streak,” added Austria, whose team is waging battle without ace guard Chris Ross.
