The PBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the resumption of the stalled 2021 Governors’ Cup by the first week of February.
The board revealed that league commissioner Willie Marcial is now awaiting word from the national government as well as from the local government units (LGU) with regards to scrimmages.
“As cases of COVID-19 infections in Metro Manila start to slow down, the PBA board has unanimously agreed to resume action in the Governors’ Cup by the first week of February,” said the league in a statement after an emergency meeting on Monday.
The league plans to give the 12 teams up to 10 days of full-on practices before plunging back into action.
Where the games will be held, however, was not disclosed.
The league opened the season-ending conference on December 8 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. Games were then moved to the Smart Araneta Coliseum a week after with fans allowed back inside the venue.
On January 6, however, the league was forced to call off the remaining games after the IATF placed the National Capital Region (NCR) as well as the nearby provinces under Alert Level 3 due to the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases in the country.
