WATCH: San Miguel vs Brgy. Ginebra Game Highlights [November 8, 2020]
San Miguel Beer bounced right back into contention for a quarterfinals spot after beating Barangay Ginebra, 81-66, Sunday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart 5G-powered AUF Sports Arena in Angeles City.
Mo Tautuaa finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Chris Ross had his own double-double of 11 points and 14 caroms as the Beermen atoned for a 90-124 loss to NLEX just last Friday that put them on the brink of missing out on one of the last quarterfinals berths.
Now with a 6-4 record and tied with Alaska, Meralco and Magnolia Ang Pambsang Manok for fourth-running spot SMB still needs another win over NorthPort Tuesday to be at least safe within the middle of the last eight advancing to the next round.
Hot on SMB’s heels are 5-4 Rain or Shine and streaking NLEX (4-5), each with two games left.
“I think the players were motivated with our situation right now because our status was, we have to win our last two games or be eliminated,” said SMB coach Leo Austria.
“There’s a logjam in the middle of the standings and those teams at the bottom are slowly catching up,” added Austria. “With this win I think we have a little advantage.”
