WATCH: Terrence Romeo’s 6-point burst seals the deal for SMB!
Terrence Romeo came through with another explosive game with 29 points, including all but two of San Miguel’s last 11 as the Beermen held off the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 111-102, to move up to joint second in the PBA Philippine Cup at the DHVSU Gym Friday night.
Romeo stepped up big time and himself did the mop-up job as the Beermen scored a follow-up on their 83-67 rout of TNT 48 hours back and thus caught up with idle Meralco at 5-2.
Marcio Lassiter, Arwind Santos, Chris Ross and June Mar Fajardo also provided firepower early on before Romeo personally warded off Ginebra’s last stand in the waning minutes.
The Kings charged back into the fight from an early 19-point deficit but came up short of their bid to salvage the game. They fell to seventh place at 3-4.
“Going to the semi-bubble, we prepared hard for the big games especially against TNT and Ginebra. There’s no other way, and I’m so happy we’re able to get past them,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
With those crucial wins over their fierce rivals, the Beermen rolled back into contention for the Top Two which reward a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
Romeo played a key role in both games.
Against the Kings, Romeo did much damage with a performance he highlighted with a personal binge of nine points in the last two minutes.
