WATCH: Wendell Comboy Highlights [San Miguel vs NLEX | November 6, 2020]
San Miguel absorbed its worst defeat in the PBA bubble – a 124-90 whipping at the hands of NLEX, Friday in the 2020 Philippine Cup restart at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The Beermen, who were coming off a 110-103 loss to the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters just the day before, fell to 5-4 with just 2 games left in their elimination round schedule.
“Our attitude is still we are in training camp mode. We are just trying to get better every game. We are just trying to get in better shape. Ang laki ng diperensya ng kundisyon namin three or four weeks ago to our condition right now,” said Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao during the post-game presser.
“We are a lot sharper, we are a lot more cohesive both on offense and defense. We are looking at those good sides,” he added.
Reserve guard Paul Zamar led the 5-time reigning All-Filipino champions with 23 points highlighted by 4-of-7 shooting from long distance in 22 minutes of action. Von Pessumal and Mo Tauatuaa were the only other Beermen who finished in double digits in scoring as the duo contributed 11 and 10 markers, respectively.
Vets Chris Ross and Arwind Santos were held to a combined 17 points while Marcio Lassiter sat out the match due to a strained calf.
San Miguel hopes to stop the bleeding when it clashes with league-leading Brgy. Ginebra on Sunday, November 8 at the same venue.
