PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup
San Miguel continued their dominant run by securing a hard-fought victory over TNT, 91-89, in the PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Sunday, March 17.
Despite facing a relentless rally from the Tropang Giga that nearly resulted in a collapse, the Beermen managed to hold their ground and maintain their flawless record heading into the extended break.
Jericho Cruz’s crucial free throws were instrumental in fending off TNT’s late surge, with his split from the line ultimately proving to be the difference in the closely contested game.
The veteran guard’s composure under pressure was key in securing the victory for SMB, as Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser’s missed three-pointer in the final seconds sealed the win for the defending champions.
In a showdown reminiscent of the previous Philippine Cup finals, June Mar Fajardo showcased his dominance with an impressive stat line of 15 points, 17 rebounds, and two blocks. Cruz, along with Marcio Lassiter and Don Trollano, contributed 12 points each, while CJ Perez and Terrence Romeo chipped in 9 points apiece.
With this victory, the Beermen solidified their position at the top of the standings with a perfect 2-0 record as they head into the break for the All-Star festivities and Holy Week.
TNT, led by Jayson Castro’s 20 points and six assists, put up a valiant effort but fell short in their quest to overcome the Beermen. RR Pogoy added 15 points, while Calvin Oftana and Kelly Williams contributed 14 points each in a losing effort as TNT dropped to a 2-2 record.
