NLEX def San Miguel, 112-108 [PBA S49 Govs’ Cup | Aug. 31, 2024]

San Miguel and NLEX are both looking to recalibrate as they face off in a highly anticipated Saturday road showdown in the PBA Governors’ Cup in Cagayan de Oro.

Both teams suffered setbacks in their previous matches, resulting in a slip to second place in Group B, with each holding a record of 2-1. The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters have now taken the solo lead with an impressive 3-0 record.

The Beermen experienced a disappointing finish, falling 102-108 to the Barangay Ginebra Kings on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Road Warriors faced a dramatic collapse against the Elasto Painters, leading by as much as 21 points only to succumb to a staggering 105-124 defeat the following day.

Now it’s time for both squads to regroup as they clash at 6 p.m. in the day’s second out-of-town offering of PBA Season 49.

Just a week prior, the Elasto Painters secured a hard-fought victory against the Gin Kings, winning 73-64 in what was a defensive struggle in Candon, Ilocos Sur.

Looking ahead, a third and final road match is scheduled in Panabo City on September 7, featuring Magnolia against Meralco.

In Cagayan de Oro, fans can expect an exciting duel between CJ Perez of San Miguel Beer and Robert Bolick of NLEX—two of the league’s premier guards and wing players.

The matchup of imports promises excitement as well, with Jordan Adams and Myke Henry both making impactful debuts in the Philippine pro league.

Adams showcased his scoring prowess with a stunning 50-point, 11-rebound performance in a 128-108 victory over the Blackwater Bossing but was held to just 23 points against Ginebra two nights later.

On the other hand, Henry made his mark with 37 points in a 100-95 triumph over the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters. He appeared poised for another stellar outing with 16 points in the first half against the Road Warriors but was stifled to only five points in the second half.

Both teams now seek redemption as they prepare for this crucial encounter.
